Behaviour and Anti-Bullying
Behaviour and Anti-Bullying
At Nightingale Primary School, we believe that excellent behaviour is the foundation for successful learning and strong relationships. Our approach to behaviour is rooted in respect, responsibility and self-discipline, reflecting our school values of Respect, Excellence and Confidence. We aim to create a calm, safe and purposeful environment in which every pupil can flourish — academically, socially and emotionally.
Our Approach
We take a positive approach to behaviour management, focusing on modelling, recognition and reflection. Staff consistently promote high expectations, praising effort and progress as much as achievement. Our Golden Rules guide behaviour across the school:
-
We look after each other and our school because we are proud of Nightingale.
-
We are honest and take responsibility for our mistakes.
-
We are gentle and kind in our actions and words.
-
We always try hard, even when learning feels difficult.
-
We respect each other and our differences.
Rewards, reflection opportunities and restorative conversations help pupils understand that it is the behaviour, not the child, that may be unacceptable. Incidents are monitored carefully through our behaviour tracking system so that patterns can be identified early and support plans (such as PSPs or Individual Behaviour Plans) put in place where needed.
Parent Partnership
We believe that home–school collaboration is key to supporting positive behaviour. Parents are kept informed and involved from the outset — both to celebrate success and to address concerns. Every family signs a Home–School Agreement that reinforces our shared commitment to a respectful and supportive learning community.
Anti-Bullying Commitment
Bullying in any form — physical, verbal, indirect or online — is never tolerated at Nightingale. Our Anti-Bullying Policy ensures that all pupils can learn in a safe, caring and inclusive environment, free from fear or intimidation.
We:
-
Promote kindness and inclusion through PSHE, assemblies, pupil voice and circle time.
-
Encourage pupils to report concerns swiftly (“Don’t suffer in silence”).
-
Record, investigate and act on all reports of bullying.
-
Support both the victim and the perpetrator through restorative practices and guidance.
-
Work with families to rebuild trust and confidence.
Pupils are taught to understand how their actions affect others and how to show empathy, resilience and respect — both in person and online. We celebrate diversity and teach pupils to value difference as a strength of our community.
Support and Intervention
Persistent or serious behaviour concerns are addressed through structured intervention, including mentoring, pastoral support, or external agency involvement. Our Child Welfare Officer and SENCo oversee behaviour and inclusion, ensuring every pupil receives the right balance of challenge, care and consistency.
