Nightingale Primary School Ofsted Report – April 2026
We are delighted to share Nightingale Primary School’s latest Ofsted inspection report, following our inspection on 15 April 2026.
The report recognises the many strengths of our school and confirms that safeguarding standards are met. This means that Ofsted found leaders and governors have established an open and positive culture of safeguarding, where concerns are identified, acted upon and managed effectively.
The school was judged to be a Strong standard in six areas:
- Achievement
- Attendance and Behaviour
- Early Years
- Inclusion
- Leadership and Governance
- Personal Development and Wellbeing
Curriculum and Teaching was judged as Expected standard.
We are incredibly proud of this outcome, which reflects the hard work, commitment and care shown by our pupils, staff, families, governors and the wider Maritime Academy Trust.
What Ofsted recognised
The report highlights that pupils at Nightingale achieve well and that outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics are above national averages. Ofsted also recognised that disadvantaged pupils achieve particularly well, outperforming non-disadvantaged pupils nationally.
The report states that leaders prioritise pupils’ knowledge in reading, writing and mathematics, helping children to build the essential skills they need to access the wider curriculum confidently.
Ofsted also praised the school’s inclusive culture, noting that pupils are known well and valued as individuals. The report recognises the strength of support for pupils with additional needs, disadvantaged pupils and those who speak English as an additional language.
We are especially pleased that the report captures the heart of Nightingale’s community, stating:
“Kindness and community cohesion sit at the heart of the school’s work.”
Behaviour, attendance and personal development
Ofsted recognised that behaviour at Nightingale is excellent. The report describes classrooms as calm and purposeful, with pupils enjoying their learning and disruption being rare.
The report also highlights the school’s strong work around attendance, pastoral care and personal development. Pupils benefit from a broad range of opportunities, including visits, workshops, sport, pupil leadership, social action and enrichment experiences.
These opportunities help children develop confidence, resilience, kindness and a strong sense of belonging.
Early Years and inclusion
Our Early Years provision was judged as a strong standard. The report describes it as a joyful environment where children are highly engaged in their learning, both indoors and outdoors.
Ofsted recognised that staff know children well, support language and communication effectively, and provide an ambitious curriculum that helps children build the knowledge and skills they need for a successful transition into Year 1.
The school’s inclusive culture was also recognised as a significant strength. Ofsted noted that leaders use their knowledge of pupils and families effectively to shape support and ensure children can achieve well and thrive.
Our next step
As with all schools, the report identifies an area for further development. Our next step is to continue strengthening staff expertise so that pupils with the most significant gaps in knowledge and skills receive consistently effective teaching and support.
This work is already part of our school improvement priorities and links closely to our ongoing focus on early language, phonics, vocabulary, reading, writing, mathematics, oracy and adaptive teaching.
