Sports Premium Statement
At Nightingale Primary School, we are committed to enhancing the quality of our Physical Education (PE) and sports provision for all pupils. With the support of the Sports Premium funding, we have been able to provide a wide range of opportunities that promote physical activity, well-being, and a healthy lifestyle.
Our focus has been on improving the quality of teaching through specialist PE staff, offering a diverse curriculum that caters to all abilities, and introducing engaging extra-curricular activities such as tennis, cricket, and canoeing. We have also embedded fitness testing and healthy living awareness into our PSHE programme, promoting active lifestyles both inside and outside of school.
Thanks to the Sports Premium, we have been able to:
- Increase pupil participation in both curricular and extra-curricular sports.
- Enhance teaching quality through staff professional development.
- Provide inclusive opportunities for pupils of all abilities.
- Support a positive impact on behaviour, attendance, and overall school improvement.
Our commitment extends to ensuring swimming proficiency, with regular sessions for Years 4, 5, and 6, where most pupils achieve the national standard by the end of Year 6.
We continue to use the Sports Premium funding strategically, ensuring sustained improvements in our PE and sports provision and encouraging all our pupils to be active, confident, and engaged in their physical development.

Swimming Data Report
Over the last three years, Nightingale Primary School has dedicated significant resources to ensuring our pupils in Years 4, 5, and 6 have access to swimming lessons as part of the PE curriculum. This commitment has aimed to build water confidence, teach essential swimming skills, and ensure pupils meet the national curriculum swimming requirements by the end of Year 6.
We are pleased to share the following data:
- Year 6: 73% of pupils can swim unaided over a distance of at least 25 metres.
- Year 5: 65% of pupils have developed the ability to swim unaided over 25 metres.
- Year 4: 40% of pupils can swim unaided and are progressing towards meeting the national standard by the end of Year 6.
We remain committed to offering swimming as an essential life skill and will continue to prioritise this programme in our curriculum.
