PE and Sport Premium 2025–26

At Nightingale Primary School, we use our Sports Premium funding to ensure every child can enjoy high-quality PE, school sport, and active play. Our aim is for all pupils to be confident, motivated and physically active every day — both in and beyond school.

For 2025–26, we have received £17,950 to strengthen our PE and sports provision further.

Our Key Priorities

  • Increase participation in competitive sport, including more inter-school tournaments across the Maritime Academy Trust and Greenwich borough.

  • Provide specialist coaching in a range of sports such as athletics, dance, football, gymnastics and cricket.

  • Broaden opportunities through new lunchtime and after-school clubs, with subsidised access for disadvantaged and SEND pupils.

  • Continue swimming lessons for Years 4–6 so every child learns this vital life skill.

  • Develop pupil leadership through our Sports Leaders Programme and inter-house competitions.

Expected Impact

  • More pupils taking part in regular sport and physical activity.

  • Greater confidence, teamwork and resilience across all year groups.

  • Improved swimming outcomes and water safety awareness.

  • Stronger links with local schools and sports clubs.

  • A lasting culture of health, inclusion and active living.

We are proud of the enthusiasm our pupils show for sport and physical activity, and we look forward to another year of teamwork, competition and fun.

PE and Sport Premium Impact Report 2024–2025

Overview

At Nightingale Primary School, we are committed to providing every pupil with the opportunity to experience high-quality Physical Education (PE), school sport, and physical activity. Through our strategic use of the Government’s PE and Sport Premium grant, we continue to enhance teaching quality, increase participation, and inspire a lifelong love of physical activity.

For 2024–25, the school received £17,710 in Sports Premium funding. All funds have been fully allocated to improving provision, with no carry forward from previous years.

Our vision is to ensure that every child, regardless of ability or background, develops the confidence, motivation, and competence to enjoy physical activity throughout their lives.

Strategic Focus Areas

Our Sports Premium funding has been used to:

  • Improve the quality of teaching and learning through specialist PE staff and structured coaching.

  • Increase participation rates in both curricular and extra-curricular sport.

  • Embed healthy lifestyle awareness within the PSHE curriculum.

  • Sustain improvements in leadership, inclusion, and pupil engagement through targeted development programmes.

Curriculum and Teaching Impact

Our specialist-led approach has transformed the delivery of PE:

  • Coaching and mentoring of class teachers by the Head of PE and external coaches has led to greater confidence and improved teaching quality.

  • Lessons now include structured warm-ups, skill progression, and reflection, improving consistency and assessment.

  • A broad and inclusive curriculum now links school sport to local community opportunities (e.g. canoeing, ice skating, tennis, cricket).

  • Leadership within PE has been strengthened, with identified teachers leading whole-school sporting initiatives.

This targeted investment has resulted in:

  • Improved quality of instruction across all key stages.

  • Increased pupil engagement and enjoyment.

  • Stronger links between PE, PSHE, and personal development.

  • Positive behaviour and attendance outcomes, as pupils demonstrate greater motivation and focus.

Extra-Curricular Provision and Participation

Our enhanced extra-curricular offer provides pupils with meaningful opportunities to develop teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
Key highlights include:

  • Over 70% of pupils have participated in at least one extra-curricular club this year.

  • Inclusive access through free or subsidised clubs for disadvantaged and SEND pupils.

  • Sports Leaders Programme: Year 6 pupils support younger peers at lunchtime clubs, while Year 5 pupils lead after-school sessions—building leadership and communication skills.

  • New lunchtime activity slots have increased daily physical activity and improved playground behaviour.

  • Off-site enrichment: pupils experienced tennis, cricket, canoeing, and ice-skating, expanding sporting horizons beyond traditional school sport.

Inclusion and Equality of Access

The Sports Premium has been used to ensure that all pupils—particularly SEND, disadvantaged, and girls—benefit equally:

  • Specialist support and peer-led coaching for pupils with SEND.

  • Focused activities encouraging girls’ participation and confidence in sport.

  • Free or subsidised club access for pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium.
